Banana, Bee, and Miss Pea

Isn't it weird to see a tropical banana in a New England garden? We planted it while the Lilac and Rhododendrons were still in bloom. The woman who gave us this banana tree has been growing them for 10 years. She lives near the Hudson River, 1/4 mile from the NewBurgh/Beacon Bridge in New York State. Some of her 12-15 banana trees are probably 8 feet tall. She brings them to her basement each winter and hauls them outside each spring.

To get this baby banana tree, we promised to help move her big trees to the basement, and keep this one alive through the winter.

Sweet Pea is the gorgeous model in the photo. Check out her blog ( http://peassoup.blogspot.com/ ) and she will tell you her take on this photo shoot and walk.
