We heard coyotes yipping and howling to one another the other night. They sounded really close; maybe in our neighbors yard. While we are already mindful of never allowing our dogs into their fenced in yard alone, it was a good reminder to be ever vigilant in protecting our dogs. There have been way too many cats and small dogs snatched from their yards in this neighborhood.

I found the above photo, which was taken about 9 years ago, from my kitchen window. This coyote was eating wild pears that had fallen from that old tree. Coyotes are nocturnal, so seeing them in the day is unusual for us.

Our holiday card with the ornament I received from my Etsy Team Pets Jubilee gift exchange. The sculptured poly clay ornament was custom made of Sweet Pea in her hat. Sasha of the Etsy shop, SassySashadoxie sent it along with a lovely bone shaped italian greyhound Christmas stocking. I suspect Sasha's human owner and slave had a lot to do with assembling this cherished gift.

The second photo shows Pea in her Max hat. The Grinch would be honored to be the inspiration for such a cute hat...even before his heart grew. Both hats are made by Diana of Etsy Shop StylinDogsBoutique.

Halloween was Cancelled

The weather brought a freak snow storm to Connecticut, causing leave covered trees to fall, ripping trees and utility poles from the ground. Halloween was celebrated until Saturday November 5th. Pepie was happy to wear his costume from a previous year. Our little cross fit muscle man.

Solange of Beadie and Things offered two turquoise jasper beads to be used in her blog challenge. I jumped at the opportunity and came up with these Celtic Elegance earrings. Queen of procrastination, I waited till the deadline day to start them. They are so completely different from the flower pot themed earrings I had in my head. I am pretty happy with them and plan to keep for myself. So anxious to see what others have come up with using the same beads.

Did you know "The Wearing of the Green" Irish street ballad dating to 1798? The song speaks of the repression around the time of the Irish Rebellion of 1798. Wearing a shamrock in the "caubeen" (hat) was a sign of rebellion.

Diapered Ducks and Italian Greyhounds

I love ducks. I'm imagining of what life would be like if we added a pet duck to our pack of four italian greyhounds. Probably not a smart move. I doubt all my dogs would be as good with one as the little dog in these photos. (Click on the photos to get a better look.)

As I child, I longed to have a duck as a pet. My grandmother's cousin had a pet duck named Sammy. I had met Sammy a few times and wished my parents would allow a duck inside. My family had a tiny pond on their property, so there were tame ducks that my sister and I snuck inside to watch the TV with us, but full time pet ducks were not really welcomed in our parents home.

Recently, I was in touch with a friend of our family, who shared photos of his duck. It is a Call duck named D-For and has been a part of his family for 5 years. The photos above show D-For with Millie the dog, whom he shadows and thinks is his Mom. In two of the photos, D-For is wearing diapers inside the home. I'm still puzzled over how one diapers a duck. How would you get a diaper to stay on a duck?

Raising a duckling as a pet would be a fun thing, but a huge commitment. I was surprised to learn, duck's can live from 10-30 years depending on the species. D-For has an expected lifespan of 20 years. One needs to spend time with a bird, everyday, as interaction is vital to a bird's health.

As long as I'm 'ducking' you, I thought I'd share this picture of a bread box I am slowly working on. It is painted with acrylics and is not my own original design. I need to finish the highlighting of the ducks, plus highlights and shadowing of the leaves.

I thought I would post this long overdue public thank you to Grace of GraceBeading for her donation to Italian Greyhound Rescue Fund. I donated some of my greyhound cabochons to be used in a project she was making for a friends greyhound rescue organization. She in turn, worked her beading magic, returning one of them to be donated to my favorite dog rescue group.

Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow this morning. If we are to believe Phil, spring should come early this year. I sure hope his prediction is correct. It would be nice to have the continuous dumping of snow here in southern New England stop, or at least, come with less frequency.

Did you know Phil is not the only shadow watching predictor of spring? Apparently, there are quite a few busy ground hogs on February 2nd:

Unofficial Etsy Forums

Great News! A fellow Petsjubilee Team member is the administrator of a new forum site, the Unofficial Etsy Forums.

Keith of Butterfly Bay Design is the administrator of this new site, which came about due to Etsy forum changes and the huge out cry against them.

The new owners of Etsy have rocked the world of their members, especially their forum users, by essentially doing away with nearly all Etsy forums. Rumors have it that what will be left will be a team only forum that resembles the Flickr groups. This will result in a place for team "pack" members to interact with themselves, but interacting between teams and individuals will be gone. I see this change as a way of getting members to reach outside of Etsy to promote their individual and team shops, therefore promoting the Etsy website.

These forum changes make me curious as to what other services Etsy will provide in leiu of the shutdown. When the brick and mortar shop continues to take a greater and greater percentage of your profit, you either pull your stuff from their shop or you ask what they are doing to help promote and encourage sales that are worth the changes. I believe one should pressure them to be creative and relentless in helping to sell your product.

I hope after the initial shock of these changes is past us, the Etsy community will question administrators as to what they are doing to promote our shops. I hope the future brings more advertising in print, radio, and television from Etsy.

How fun to find Miss Pea staring out at me when I reviewed my Esty activity feed this morning. She models a snood pattern from Angela of aandboriginals. Okay, this is definitely not a huge Ta-Da moment. She takes every chance she can for more attention, so the dogs and I put our hands and paws together to offer her a round of applause. While, she may not look very happy wearing it, she really does enjoy a snood in the freezing weather. Her scornful look is due to the fact she was not happy to pose for the camera. Ermine the Mother Hare

Today I ran out to mail a package and stop at our local independent grocery store. I was lucky enough to find some super fresh kale. When I arrived home, I found our post office lady delivering a package, just as our grey sky opened up, letting snow flakes fall.

Ermine had arrived!

I had been waiting anxiously for her to make it here, all the way from Edinburgh, Scotland. I was one of the lucky winner's in the 2010 Winter Raffle to benefit RNGP in Rugby, England (Rabbit & Guinea Pig Rescue). I thought it was timely that a brief snow squall happened as she was arriving as Ermine was named after the winter coat of a stoat.

I had never heard of a stoat. It is also timely, in that, my last blog post talks about weasels and badgers.

The snow quickly stopped, and blue sunny skies are with us now. Ermine has settled in. She tasted her favorite food, fresh kale. She had her photo taken with Miss Sweet Pea. She is looking forward to meeting Gemmie (both have the biggest dark brown eyes). She'll be spending much of her time sitting in the writing arm windsor chair my father made me, watching the wild birds and squirrels through the window. At least until spring arrives, then she may become one of the only bunnies welcome in my garden.

Any mention of a weasel, reminds me of the Fisher I saw a couple years ago. I was up extra early that morning, and have no one else to witness or enjoy the sighting of this creature. Some think I was dreaming. LOL It was running with it's strange gait along our stone wall. I had never seen one before and had no idea what it was. My first thought, since we have streams and small ponds all around us, was that I was looking at a river otter. It was so much bigger than the mink like animals (probably American martens) I saw growing up on my family's property. After researching, I learned it was a large fisher, which have begun to make a comeback into our southern part of New England.

Patterened Floor Tiles and My Kitchen Backsplash

On this first Sighthound Sunday of 2011, I'm sharing a few greyhound tiles.

First of all a photo of greyhound tiles from the floor of Sainte Chapelle in Paris, France.

I have searched the internet over and over for tiles these past few months. This summer, my husband and I decided to do some long overdue repairs to our home. Adding a gutter, replacing the back door and a couple of windows - mostly work we did own our own. Replacing the crumbling particle board kitchen cabinets was the major part of our home improvements.

Choosing a tile for the backsplash was a long (very long) search. I really wanted some tiles from Sarah Regan Snavely and matching field tile. I imagined a parade of winged animals, her horse, greyhound, cat, and maybe a cow, under my kitchen window sink. Lots of movement in the design and lots of stars.

Ultimately, I decided the early american kitchen I have dreamed of, was not exactly in keeping with our home's contempory style. The plain, simple, off white, and much cheaper tile we ordered, will arrive in another week or two. Yeah! All decorating decisions are finished and we will begin installing the last home repair for a long while. Oops. I forgot. I still need to decide on a grout color.

Welcome New Year 2011

It is hard to believe that it was 11 years ago today, we were breathing a sigh of relief over the fact that the world did not come to an end at midnight, New Year's Eve 1999. The software put in place worked and computers continued to keep the world running as we knew it. How much the world has changed since midnight December 31st, 1999!

I spent today the same way I did January 1st 2000. Enjoying a lazy weekend day with my husband and pets, simmering food on the stove, while watching movies. The best way to spend the first day of the new year.

Lampworking 101

My husband bought me a beginners lampworking kit a while back. These beads are my very first attempt. My first and only attempt at lampworking.

I really enjoyed working with the flame. Watching the glass melt, continually rolling it onto the mandrel, adding decorative bits of glass, and millifori was totally cool. I'm definitely going to try working with it again, after the weather breaks and my garage "studio" is much warmer. Yet at this moment, I wonder if it is really the right medium for me. I found myself worrying about every movement, being afraid to burn myself or my house. Perhaps with practice the whole "dance with glass and flame" would become second nature and more enjoyable. We shall see.

While I already had a tremendous amount of respect for those that work glass with fire, having tried my hand at it, my admiration is even greater.

One place to admire the work of masters is the Museum of Natural History at Harvard University. My nephew is on their swim team, so in a couple weeks I plan to watch him compete. Then off to the museum to see the Glass Flower Collection exhibit. This will be my second visit to see these flowers.

The Blashka's of Dresden, Germany spent 50 years making life size glass replicas of about 846 plants. I was mesmerized by the lifelike detail of each piece and the sheer number of them. Bless my husband's heart. I know he walked around and saw a bunch of aged, fading glass flowers, in very old dusty display cases, yet he said he enjoyed the exhibit. Me, a gardener and someone who appreciates the work involved in making each piece, was blown away. I was totally eating it up. Can't wait to go back! Sighthound Holiday Wallhanging

I never found time to post my decorations before Christmas, so I'm sharing a few of my favorites on this Sighthound Sunday. The snow is falling and the strong winds are making blizzard conditions outside. It is the perfect day for snuggling inside with my husband, our sighthound pack, with many glowing christmas lights, enjoying a relaxing day.

This little wallhanging was purchased some years ago from the Biggy Iggy Auction. I believe, if my memory is correct, the artist who donated this work was named Margaret Allison. Her son designed the IG silhouette. I also purchased a spring wallhanging with the same IG, and 3D flowers. Both are a treasuried part of my sighthound collection.

For a little more than a year, I have been collecting old cylinder candles, sometimes called sugar candles. In the mid to late 70's, when I was in school, we sold these as fundraisers. Making my usually thrift/consignment shop rounds, I found 3 of these candles for under a dollar each. I came home, did a little online research and discovered what a great deal I had stumbled upon. I was surprised at the prices on Ebay, especially for the religious themed and pretty landscape designs. I never finished decorating the garland or the greyhound statues (another greyt bargain), but I still enjoyed the candles nestled between the dogs. I hope you do too. I hope they inspire you in some way.

Just a quick post for this Sighthound Sunday:
The sighthound this week is a portrait by Tony, my 6 year old nephew, done on thanksgiving day. Sweet Pea was laying on her side in front of the fire. Tony made a noise which caused Pea to lift her head and look in his direction. They caught eyes for a moment. Tony quickly ran to his paper and pen to capture her portrait. Watching him get inspiration, then run to his paper was so much fun. He did this with the logo on his father's shirt, the mouse figurine on my side table, each of our dogs.

I hope he continues to draw.

Etsy Beagle Team Challenge

Here is my latest creation. It was made for the Etsy Beagles Team holiday challenge. The theme of the challenge was, Happy Howlidays.

I made similar necklaces for my sister (and myself) last year. It is whimsical and lots of fun to wear. I receive so many compliments on it. I've decided to make more that are decorated in a way that makes them appropriate to wear year round. Maybe a gardening snowlady? Perhaps a fishing snowman? A cat loving snowlady? A tropical Snowman with flamingos and palm trees? This could be lots of fun. Any ideas or requests?

Falconry - Rock in the Sea - Shocking Blue

Tricia, of the blog Carried Away, posted this YouTube link. The video from BBC is taken from a camera on the back of a bird trained in falconry. The bird soars above an ocean and cliff, then zooms through trees in a forest. The forest scene reminds Tricia, and I, of the scene in Return of the Jedi' as they fly through the giant trees on their land speeders. The music accompaning the video is Rock in the Sea by Shocking Blue, a Dutch band of the late 60's and ealy 70s. I love the music and video together.

I'm also reminded of the lady who would bring her birds to my grandparents farm. She would stop in the house, talk for a while, then take the birds out to the fields. I remember feeling so lucky to have been visiting my grandparents on the same day she was there. It was very exciting to watch the birds fly out and soar around. It was so amazing to watch them always return to a person. It still is!

I found this page about Saluki and falconry, titled Falconer's Dream. I like the photo of the dog and the bird. It briefly speaks of how highly regarded the Saluki was by the Abrabians. Throughout the middle ages, hounds and falconry was a sport of wealthy nobelman. Given my personal experience with my 4 tiny hounds, it is hard to believe they share genes with dogs that hunt. My lap dogs only lounge and wait for dinner to be served.

I am always searching for sighthound collectibles. I purchased a Delft tile at a rescue fundraiser some years ago. It shows a hunt scene with a man resting by a tree with his dogs...some of which look like sighthounds. In the background is another man with his birds. It makes me smile, as it reminds me of Cinnamon. Cinnamon was a mixed breed dog of my childhood. He looked very much like a fawn great dane. His family was at witts end because he scaled the fence, climbing out of every boarding facility he stayed at. When they discovered my father's veterinary hospital, which had covered kennel runs, Cinnamon stayed put, and our two families became very close friends as a result.

If I were a wealthy person, I'd commission the artist to make a Cinnamon sculture, which I would give to our friends. I love to see my four dogs climbing our fence...only in similar concrete mosaic scultures. Thankfully they are not fence climbers.

It has been a very long time with no post. I have been so very busy this summer with the usually summer parties, birthday parties, with lots of garden and yard work. The recent heatwave has me watering overtime. I thought I would take a break from the outdoor work, to share with you all a photo of our neighbor...a beautiful, large black bear.

The photo was on the July 2010 cover of our little town newspaper. I did not recognize the street name of where it was taken, so I pulled out a map. It turns out the street next to us changes names as it makes a 90 degree turn. So a thin strip of trees separates our street from the street where this big guy was photographed. Lots of bear around here, so having this guy so close shouldn't really be a surprise.

I think it is so very cute. I would like to squeeze it's little cheeks. No worries! I am a bit smarter than that. The sensible thing is to stay far away and keep property free of yummy bear treats. Perhaps I'll pull out a paint brush to paint it.

Connecticut has lots of wooded areas, perfect for bears to be very happy. With an easy source of food, human garbage cans, bird seed in feeders, they are increasing in numbers. Very surprising to me, was yesterday's article in a local paper telling about a bear attack on a quarter horse. I had no idea they would attack something that large. The horse should be okay and the owner believes the horse was protecting it's corral, perhaps startling the bear who climbed into the fenced area. Beading for Greyhounds

Grace, of Etsy's Gracebeading, has used a Frum's Glass greyhound cabochon to make a gorgeous donation to First State

Greyhound Rescue group. It is exquisite. What really shocked me, is how quickly she whipped it up. Seems like it was only mailed a few days ago. She may be making another for me, which I will donate to help the Italian Greyhounds.

Painting on silk can be so frustration. It was all flowing smoothly, then some black bled into the dog. Maybe I'm out of practice. Oh well. At least I know what caused it to happen.

In case you hadn't noticed, the subject matter is one of my favorites. I'll touch it up with some textile paint, and keep for myself. I might turn it into a pillow.

Finally back to this blog after such a long time away.
I found our vacation in Florida very relaxing and inspiring. I did not realize I needed a time away, but found it gave me a new view of my little piece of the world.

I've lots of plans for working with textiles again. I find myself tiring of working with glass. I need to expand my glass work or move on. I'll see which way it evolves.

Since I had two tags at the same time, I decided to post the 10th & 11th photos. Above is the 10th photo. It was taken about 3 years ago, maybe 4. It is a trailing african violet which I purchased from The Violet Barn, the first year they exhibited at the Hartford, Connecticut Spring Garden Expo. The variety is named Chantaspring. I really love trailers, especially the miniature varieties. Those who grow them for show, will prune and trim them, keeping all leaves at the same height, dense without showing any soil, and training them to grow in a circle. The 11th photo was taken at the same time. It is another more traditional african violet in full bloom.

I'm adding this 3rd photo to show how my little trailer looks today. It just had a few blossoms, and is getting ready to bloom a bit more. It is always blooming. Check out the new crown that has begun growing left of the cat figurine.

Ferret Lovers Jewelry

I've been inspired to create a few items that a ferret lover might like.

I found myself wondering how long ferrets have been pets in the United States. I did a little internet searching and discovered they were pretty rare in the U.S. until the '80s.

It was the mid to late eighties when I was visiting my parents, probably home from college, and I helped reunite a ferret to it's owner. I was in the garage with the door wide open, when in strolled a ferret. It was obviously someone's pet. It came up to me and had no fear. The closest neighbor was about 5 acres away and a busy 3 lane road bordered one side of the property. Long story short, the little guy belonged to a neighbor, who was very happy to have it's safe return.

An Italian Cat

What a life this kitty has. To think it may have 9 lives. I wonder if it would spend them all here in this corner of the world.

I recently finished this pendant and was happy with the way it came together. My glass fusing process is either well thought out or a mishmash of various glass pieces. I prefer not thinking about it, as it is fun to be surprised when opening the kiln. This combination of glass was thrown together without any thought. I did not like it much when it came out of the kiln. That dislike changed, once I fused on the gold cat.

It reminded me of my trip to visit my husband's family in Northern Italy. With a bit more thought, I realized it was the rich red color, the orange, the gold that reminded me of tile roofs, buildings, and the traditional venetian colors used in textiles, on walls, etc. The blues and grays are like the sky and stone. The photo above was taken in the city of Bassano del Grappa, in the veneto providence. We were on the street just east of the meandering river that runs through the city.

You can easily learn about the city's long history and beauty with just a few clicks, so I will not ramble on and on about that. You might want to click this link to see one photo taken from the landmark wooden bridge of the city. The cat in the photo above lives along that river.

I wonder if it appreciates how fortunate it is.

...with legumes?

My father, now 82, was raised in New York State, to parents of Dutch/German/Swedish descent. As a child, his Mom would wake he and his sister at the stroke of midnight, to usher in the New Year by eating lentil soup. Can you imagine? While I like most legumes, in moderation, I am grateful my parents did not perpetuate this tradition.

Discussing family traditions among online friends tweaked my interest. I spent some time looking up what is found on the New Year's Day table and the origins of these foods. To name a few; legumes resemble money or coins, thus eating them brings good luck and fortune. Likewise for greens. Pigs forage for their food by moving forward, so eating pork moves one forward in the New Year. Cows stand still and birds move backward and forward, so stay away from beef and poultry.

Breaking personal traditions, I made red lentil soup for New Year's Day. I saved a few lentils to photograph my first pendant of 2010. The white sighthound is taking time to smell a flower. I'm hoping everyone enjoys a healthy and happy new year.

I love Etsy's Treasury feature. I enjoy curating them and love to search through the collections others have put together. Fair warning: Treasuries can be very addictive!

Frums Glass Menagerie was featured in a pet themed treasury. Natalie of Shriever's Retreat included my cat necklace. Natalie titled the treasury Your Best Friend, with the subtitle, Show the world your love for your pet with these great gifts for you. I love how so many people can use the same theme and find a totally unique collection. I wish I needed a baby gift. I would buy the cute parakeet shoes. The hamsters created using peanuts as a mold are just too much. The artist also makes tiny pink babies. I might have to buy those little hamsters for my niece and nephews. Many thanks to Natalie. As I've said before, with all the tons of stuff flooding the internet, being featured is always an honor.

For those that do not know, treasuries are lists of 16 items each that Etsy members pick out. These lists last for three days each and may have a common theme, color, or may just be items the curator admires. The curator can change the items often in those 3 days or not. The front page of Etsy is picked from the various treasuries curated by the members.

It was on the far corner of the property, contrasting so nicely against the white snow, sniffing an evergreen tree. For an instant, the flicker of white under it's tail made me think I was seeing a deer. No, couldn't be. Wrong body shape and size. Was it a coyote? No. It was heavier than the coyotes I've seen recently, and again, the wrong body shape.
It was a large bobcat. It was out for a relaxing walk, smelling trees and bushes on the way, enjoying the sunset of Christmas Eve. It walked closer and closer, coming about 15 feet from the patio. I thought it would see our mad scramble for binoculars and cameras. If it did, it certainly wasn't fearful.

It was so cool to watch this big guy for a few minutes. We're all still talking about how huge it was compared to others we have seen through the years.

My dogs would love the drumstick, chicken wings, and the T-bone steak. As someone who has fed my dogs a BARF diet (i.e. raw chicken wings), it would pretty fun to see them running around the house with stuffie wings.

A recent story of ferret love and the joy animals bring to our lives:

I met a man in the waiting room of our veterinarian's office. He was an elderly man who has a small, cream colored ferret in his arms. They were there to have it's nails trimmed. Sweet Pea and this little ferret enjoyed getting close and sniffing one another.

The man shared with me, that his wife had recently passed on. He told me of the many ways the little ferret showed how much it really missed the woman. It was a heartbreaking conversation learning the details of his years with his wife, and how he and the ferret missed her. It was also very heartwarming that the
ferret gave him so much joy, love, and comfort, helping with his grief.

We have been growing this banana plant for two years. We plant it in our Connecticut garden each summer, then drag it inside to winter in a pot. It has been so exciting to watch it flower.

This necklace will be auctioned on Ebay, beginning Friday, August 7th, with 100% proceeds going to East Coast Italian Greyhound Rescue. They will be helping to transport four 10 year old italian greyhounds, who were in a kill shelter in one of the southern states.

The four dogs had been with the same elderly man since puppy hood. When he lost his home and had to live in his car, the dogs went to a friend, who ultimately got tired of them, and sent them to the shelter.

God bless the rescuers who have helped them and the loving people who will ultimately adopt them. Thoughts and prayers to the elderly man who had to give them up.

Sure wish we could squeeze another senior hound into our home.

Our beautiful, fragrant lilies are gone. This year they did not come back up. I blame the increasing population of chipmunks, although, it may have simply been the age of the bulbs or the winter weather.

For 7 years, the dogs sat for their annual photo. I'll be planting more and hope to get our newest girl, Gemma in next years group photo.

While organizing my studio, I found this wire wrapped bead pendant, which I had made closer to two years ago. The design was inspired by a friend's little dog.
The wire is Argentium Silver, which is trademarked and patented .925 sterling silver made with the addition of Germanium. Traditional sterling silver is made of silver and copper. The addition of germanium in Argentium makes it a very tarnish resistant silver. It is really amazing that it sat uncovered, exposed to the air for nearly two years, without any tarnishing.

Senior Sadie Needs Help

This sweet older girl reminds me of my Gemma. Both were found in difficult situations and needed major dental help.

Sadie is in need of expensive medical care. Her veterinarian in Prescott AZ (Mile High) has estimated about $900 to repair her rotted, broken jaw and extract what's left of her teeth. Her foster mom says she's a sweet, active dog and gets a long well with the other dogs. She is about 8 years old and 6 pounds.

Painting Pulik

I've been trying new techniques. I painted each layer of glass prior to fusing. Each layer had about 4 layers of paint, with kiln polishing between each layer of paint. After a sigh of relief that the pieces of painted glass fused together successfully, I added more details (more paint and kiln polishing) to the pendants.

Lots of ideas for more whimsical sheep and puli paintings dance in my brain. Settling down to paint them is the hard part. Hugs to your Herding dogs!

I've been working with a new type of glass. Hand painting on it is a bit more challenging, at least thus far. Every change seems to bring a new hurdle to get past.

I finished this kitty and realized it looks so much like my first cat. His name was Thomasina. Yes a male cat named Thomasina. I named him after a Disney movie when I was four years old. The 1964 movie was titled, The Three Lives of Thomasina. Ever hear of that oldie?

a r t 4 m i l k b o n e s - a girl & her dogs: So my sister adopted some .... GOATS! This blog post reminded me of Brian and Haley:
This is Brian with my cousin. Brain was rescued from a dog fighting ring. These little beings are being used to bait and train dogs to fight.

This is Haley. She lives like one of the dogs inside a home. She is owned by my cousin's boss. My cousin works for the local humane society, so I would guess Haley was also a rescued goat.

The Glass Lovers Art Society

The Glass Lovers Art Society is a terrific group of artists who paint on glass. I was invited to join the group a little more than a year ago. For that, I am so very grateful. I have learned so much about working with glass from the many talented and experienced members. They are generous artists willing to share their knowledge and experience. I have lots of fun joking around with the artsy TGLAS gals, plus enjoy creating glass paintings to enter in our themed challenges.

Nibblefest Art Contest

After months of not participating in the Nibblefest Art Contest, I have entered two different items. All entries are listed on Ebay, the 20th of each month, starting at a mere $0.99. The theme this month is "Winter Wonderland."

I have entered an ice fishing snowman pendant and a hot chocolate sipping Italian greyhound beaded necklace. I have to laugh at the thought of an iggy in a winter wonderland. My personal experience is that Iggies prefer a warm comfy bed indoors with a warm meal in their bellies, to anything cold and resembling a "winter wonderland."

Search Ebay for NFAC to see all the original art entries. There are rats, owls, sock money, chipmunk, a winter farm scene, snowman, winter solace, chickadee, deer, snow rabbits, cats, geese, a clown, an ice skater, even a cockatiel.

I love the way this necklace came together. I was fortunate to have found a piece of dichroic glass that went to well with the beads. Finding another piece of glass liek this one will be very difficult. Truly, this a one of a kind.

After Snoopy found his forever home through Shih Tzu Rescue, he lived a very blessed life with two people who adored him. He was taken without warning, and so suddenly, leaving a hole in the hearts of those that knew him.

Snowman and an Icy Day

Tuesday nights snow turned into a day of freezing rain. I was home making more snowman pendants, beading new necklaces, and turning a dreary, dark afternoon into a very productive day. The photo above shows my front sidewalk, looking across to a neighbors house.

While snow was coming down, I added a few items to my Etsy shop, Frums Glass Menagerie. I am hoping by adding this dichroic glass snowman to the shop, tonights winter storm stays as snow, and does not change to ice. Just a little of my Irish superstition, wishing away a bunch of ice.

Artichokes, Farfalle, and Sweet Pea

Farfalle loves his fruits and veggies. Tonight we shared some of our artichokes with him. Sweet Pea surprised us. She is generally not too food inspired, yet tonight, she was excited to pull the green tasty bottoms off the leaf. We should have made more of them.

Note of caution: We hang on to the leaf, not allowing them to eat the very fibrous strings of the artichokes, only the tender bottom of the leaf. Choking, obstruction, and impaction are things we never want our sweet fur babies to experience.

Produce Market

My husband and I both enjoy cooking, and especially eating what we create. Today we stopped by our favorite produce market. Based on the trucks in the parking lots, I suspect a produce wholesaler from New York city has opened this market in our area. The routine selection and variety of fruits and veggies is amazing. And the prices on most items is so much better than the grocery stores.

Today we discovered they have rearranged, making a large spot for a fish monger. There was tons of excitement in the air, as people selected fresh fish, fruit, and vegetables.

Purchased today, counter clockwise; escarole, red leaf lettuce, red peppers, yellow peppers, orange peppers, cilantro, tomatoes, limes, radicchio, cucumbers, jalapeno, yellow onions, local honey, broccoli, zucchini, scallions, alfalfa sprouts, artichokes, granny smith apples, navel oranges, blood oranges, bananas, cantaloupe.

Happy New Year everyone. The hounds and I are wishing you a very healthy, happy New Year.

We celebrated the new year by hanging up our 2009 calender. We never let a year slip by without purchasing our favorite fundraiser calender. It is an annual holiday gift to ourselves and some family members.
It benefits Italian Greyhound Rescue Fund, Inc. Three photos of our four dogs are among the many photos of gorgeous dogs.

Girl Scout Project

I received a phone call from my sister yesterday. She wondered if I could pull together a bunch of necklaces for her girl scout troop. The purpose of the project is for the girls to learn how to gift wrap a box, and to have something to give a friend or family member.

I thought I could easily pull something together and had supplies in mind. Always working best under pressure, I waited till 2 hours before due time, only to discover my original plans were not going to work. Yes, waiting till the last minute is a family trait. LOL!

All worked out for the best. I epoxyed a few rhinestones on two extra pendants, offering an idea for decorating. I am happy with what I did prepare for the scouts and look forward to seeing photos of their creative take on these simply pendants.
